To encourage the recycling of our cups we have teamed up with a number of not for profit and profit making recycling organisations that specialise in the raw materials we supply. All our cups are fully recyclable and carry the necessary logos and certifications required by the various recycling organisations. When you purchase from CupsDirect.co.uk we want to encourage recycling by advising the best way for your company to recycle your used cups, in some cases contribution to collection costs or fees associated with certain schemes. We also operate our own recycling service where we can recover and deliver our customers cups taking them in bulk to our nominated recycling centre.
Recycling our Plastic Cups
Our plastic cups are manufactured from Polypropylene (PP-05) and Polystyrene (PS-06) materials. The most well known way of recycling these is via the save a cup scheme. The current recovery and recycling infrastructure is growing all the time, only certain recycling facilities have invested in new methodologies to deal with PS and PP raw material.
Recycling our Paper Cups
Paper cups that are intended for liquids and hot drinks are typically constructed from a wet -strength high quality paper fibre. The cup is then internally lined with a very thin polyethylene (PE) coating.
The PE coating found on most paper cups means additional methodologies are required for the recycling of a paper cup and it is not the same process as recovering standard paper waste. To give an idea of the process it involves, additional washing is performed in the pulper to separate the PE from the paper, the PE film is thermally recycled and used as fuel for generating steam. Once again save a cup would be the most known company for recovery on paper cups, but we also have other specialists like London Recycling who might be a better option for your company.
